MAKING HISTORY IN YOUR VERY OWN BACKYARD

On the back of Adelaide hosting the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic trials in 2021, it is a huge achievement for our great state to host the Australian Swimming Para and Age Championships.

Over the past ten years, the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre has attracted national and international events contributing approximately $100 million of economic benefit to South Australia.

The Centre’s facilities and associated managers, trainers and staff have been significant contributors to the success of South Australian swimming athletes. Sixty-two medals have been awarded at events such as the Olympic Games, Paralympics, World Championships, Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championships.

Not to mention records galore - the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials, held at the Centre, oversaw three World records, four Commonwealth Records and 11 Australian Records being set at this event alone.

The Centre has seen our swimming heroes walk our corridors, swim in our state-of-the-art pools and realise their dreams. The talent pool includes South Australian swimming heroes such as Kyle Chalmers, Madi Wilson, Travis Mahoney, Sally Hunter, James Mckechnie, Josh Palmer, Isabella Vincent, Brittany Elmslie and Jesse Aungles, and new heroes to the blocks Matt Temple, Zac Inserti and Meg Harris. In addition, there is plenty of local up-and-coming talent, including Brittany Castelluzzo and Harliai Curthoys-Davies.

The talent doesn’t stop with South Australia. Recent events have seen Ariane Titmus, Zac Stubblety Cook, and the Campbell sisters compete here as their last stop before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

We are genuinely proud to have such a fantastic world-class Centre that showcases, supports and develops our grassroots athletes, elite athletes and economy with events, including the up-and-coming Para and Age Swimming Championships in April and the Australian Swimming Championships in May (event notice released closer to the event).
