SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre has a team of accredited Exercise Physiologists who are university qualified allied health professionals.
Exercise Physiologists specialise in the prevention, treatment and management of chronic disease and injuries through exercise. Your Exercise Physiologist will work in conjunction with your other treating health professionals (e.g. GP, physiotherapist, dietitian) to develop a tailored exercise program which includes: exercise delivery, advice and support, and assistance with successfully changing lifestyle behaviours.
Our Exercise Physiologists provide individual and small group consultations in both the gym and hydrotherapy pool onsite.
Exercise Physiologists can help with the following conditions:

Private or non-referral: You may wish to see us without a referral and/or redeem a private health rebate for a gym, home or pool based program.
- An initial assessment is required with one of our Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs), completed prior to group session participation
- A standard one-on-one session with an Exercise Physiologist to be guided through your program
- Ongoing group gym or pool based exercise sessions
Care plan referral from your GP: If you have a chronic condition and are deemed eligible by your General Practitioner, you can receive up to 5 bulk-billed one-on-one sessions with an Exercise Physiologist per year.
- An initial assessment with one of our Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) to determine health status, exercise history and current physical abilities
- A tailored gym, home or pool based exercise program developed to treat or manage your condition
Type 2 diabetes referral: For those diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, Exercise Physiology services are bulk-billed, including 1 Assessment and 8 pool and/or gym group sessions.
- An initial assessment with one of our Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) to determine health status, exercise history and current physical abilities.
- A tailored gym or pool based exercise program to utilise in group sessions.
Strength for life: Non-referral: Strength for Life (SFL) provides adults over 50 years of age with affordable, tailored and supervised strength training in a group setting.
- A SFL Assessment with one of our Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs)
- Tailored gym based exercise program developed after your initial assessment to utilise in group SFL sessions
Depending on your service type and program you may either be using our hydrotherapy pool or gym facilities.
Our 25 metre hydrotherapy pool is heated, shallow and has a access ramp.

Individual services (5 per year) are bulk billed provided the patient is referred by a GP with a Team Care Arrangement and GP Management Plan.
For those diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, Exercise Physiology services are bulk billed.
Private sessions are available at the Centre with the majority of health funds now recognising Exercise Physiology services and offering a substantial rebate. The SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre is equipped with a HICAPS terminal which allows all payments to be processed on the spot.

Department of Veteran Affairs: The SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre’s Exercise Physiology service is a Department of Veteran Affairs provider ensuring that all card holders referred to our Exercise Physiologists are covered. Work-cover/ motor vehicle accident: Our Exercise Physiologists are able to work on achieving the client’s rehabilitation needs and goals following a referral from a GP and case manager approval.
Meet our Practitioners
Mark has a wide range of experience in completing clinical assessments, providing gym, pool or home programs to suit the client’s personal needs. As an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Mark is able to treat a wide range of condition’s including musculoskeletal, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, and respiratory disorders with special interest in cardiovascular conditions.
As an ESSA Accredited Exercise Physiologist, she is passionate about enabling others to manage their conditions and injuries through exercise and movement. In addition to her evidence-based exercise prescription, she uses education and long-term behaviour change strategies to affect the most meaningful difference in her client’s lives. She works collaboratively with her clients to find a form of activity that they enjoy, as there’s no one right way to exercise.
Jess has always been passionate about health and fitness, with more than 8 years’ experience working within the exercise delivery field. She has always had a special interest in rehabilitation and helping people manage their chronic health conditions, so with her strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills it was a natural progression for Jess to become an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
As an ESSA accredited exercise physiologist Alex has built on this interest and is able to use exercise to manage a range of clinical conditions. Working at SA Aquatic centre, Alex utilises the excellent facilities to provide home, gym or water based programs to tailor a program centred on your needs and goals.
