Exercise Physiology is open for Individual Hydro and Gym bookings with an Exercise Physiologist. Please contact our reception between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm on 8198 0137 to arrange an appointment.
SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre has a team of accredited Exercise Physiologists who are university qualified allied health professionals.
Exercise Physiologists specialise in the prevention, treatment and management of chronic disease and injuries through exercise. Your Exercise Physiologist will work in conjunction with your other treating health professionals (e.g. GP, physiotherapist, dietitian) to develop a tailored exercise program which includes: exercise delivery, advice and support, and assistance with successfully changing lifestyle behaviours.
Our Exercise Physiologists provide individual and small group consultations in both the gym and hydrotherapy pool onsite.

Ways to access services
Medicare Enhance Primary Care Plan (EPC)
Individual services (5 per year) are bulk billed provided the patient is referred by a GP with a Team Care Arrangement and GP Management Plan.
Type 2 diabetes referral
For those diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, Exercise Physiology services are bulk-billed, including 1 assessment and 8 pool and/or gym group sessions
Private
Private sessions are available at the Centre with many health funds recognising Exercise Physiology services and offering a substantial rebate. The SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre is equipped with a HICAPS terminal which allows all payments to be processed on the spot.
NDIS
The NDIS offer funding for Allied Health Services related to a person’s disability – this incorporates Exercise Physiology. Funding for Exercise Physiology can come from one of two budget areas in an NDIS plan:
- Capacity building – Improved Daily Living
- Capacity building – Improved Health and Wellbeing
Accredited Exercise Physiologists can tailor programs for people with disabilities that address critical needs, such as:
- improved daily living capabilities
- improved mental and physical health and well-being
- the ability to engage in the community including social activities
- overall strength and capacity improvements.
Department of Veteran's Affairs
If you are an eligible Veteran with a DVA White or Gold card, you may be able to access Exercise Physiology services. Exercise Physiology can help through the delivery of clinical exercise to manage chronic disease or post-hospital exercise rehabilitation for treatment of a major injury or illness.
Work Cover/Motor Vehicle Accident
Our Exercise Physiologists can work on achieving the client’s rehabilitation needs and goals following a referral from a GP and case manager approval.

Services
To attend any of our services, an initial assessment with one of our Accredited Exercise Physiologists must be completed. This is so we can determine your health status, exercise history and current physical abilities. A tailored exercise program will be developed following your initial assessment which can be utilised in your sessions of choice.
Hydrotherapy
Pool program with access to the Centre's 25 metre heated shallow-water program pool with an access ramp.

Home-Based Exercise
Individually prescribed exercise program to improve your well-being from the comfort of your own home. Work at your pace and utilise personally tailored exercises to optimise your health and reach your individual goals.
Clinical Reformer Class
Classes are facilitated by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and are designed to help manage chronic conditions or continue with rehabilitation, with the aim of improving balance, mobility, and functional movement. All programs are individually prescribed and designed to suit your individual needs.
Chair-Based Mindful Movement Class
Our Chair-Based Mindful Movement Classes are a low impact chair-based exercise modality focussing on mind-body connection and breathing control. The purpose of this class is to improve balance, mobility, and flexibility through a mix of static and dynamic poses and breathing exercises. The class is beginner friendly and suitable for people of all experience levels.
