For the last 14 years, the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre (SAALC), supported by the State Government of South Australia and YMCA Aquatic and Event Services, has been at the heart of the state's health, wellness, recreation, and sports community.

To preserve and extend the life of facilities, rejuvenation works are scheduled at the centre. This includes the Dive/Water Polo Pool and change room set 1.

21/11/2024 Dive/Water Polo Pool commencing soon:

Rejuvenation works on the Dive/Water Polo Pool will commence from Friday 22 November 2024, with this pool currently closed.

We expect the Dive Pool to be completed by March. However, please be aware that dates may change, and updates will be made on our website if this occurs.

  • Work Inclusions and program/service information

    These works will include:

    • Filtration improvements,
    • liner repairs,
    • upgrades,
    • dive tower refurbishment,
    • enhancements to pool accessibility and safety.

    During this time there may be some program and service changes:

    Swimming Lessons: Any classes held in the dive pool will have a lesson move to the competition pool. Follow the directional signs to the competition pool and find your teacher there. No classes are scheduled to be cancelled due to the dive pool works.

    Aqua Group Fitness: Deep water classes will be in the competition pool. Times and content is not scheduled to change. Please be patience for any lane rope changes.

    Lap Swimming: Lap swimming will be available in the competition pool in 25 m mode. Subject to availability, alternative pool space is available for members and multi visit pass holders at Marion Outdoor Pool and Unley Swimming Centre. Please check lap lane availability.

    Squads: Squad timetable changes will occur, please check your emails and upcoming coaches newsletter for changes to your squad.

    Diving Training: There will be no Diving training at SAALC during this time. Please speak with Diving SA & SASI for relocation details.

    Water Polo Training: Water polo training will be moved to the competition pool. Please speak with Water Polo SA and Henley for relocation details.

7/11/2024 Change room set 1 begins:

We have begun works on the centre’s change room set 1 (closest to the Leisure Area) to improve quality of the facilities. We expect change room set 1 to be completed on Wednesday 15 January 2024. Alternative change rooms are available. Please note dates are subject to change and will be updated on our website.

What does this mean for your visit

Traffic Flow: To safely carry out these works traffic flow changes will be in place in certain areas of the centre. Please follow the signage.

 

Noise and dust: We anticipate some noise, particularly during the change room set 1 works. However, we have taken all necessary precautions to minimise any issues. Our team will ensure that work is carried out in compliance with health and safety standards, and we will do our best to keep these disruptions to a minimum. If it’s feeling too noisy, we’ve got free disposable earplugs at reception. Just ask, and we’ll be happy to help!

    The SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre has seen nearly 14 million visitations in 13 years and has hosted numerous world-class events. With such heavy use and the high standards South Australians have come to expect from this facility, regular maintenance and upgrades are essential to ensure the centre continues to operate at a top level. These works will extend the life of the pools, keep them in line with safety and regulatory standards, and maintain SAALC's status as a premier destination for community recreation, high-performance pathways and international events.
  • Will the pools be closed during the works?

    The specific Dive/Water Polo Pool will be closed while works occur. However, the remaining pools and facilities will stay open. We have worked closely with representatives from both Government and the project team to carefully plan the schedule of works, ensuring there is minimal disruption to the customer journey.
  • How will these works affect my membership or visit?

    We are committed to minimising the impact on your membership or visit and we anticipate being able to continue offering high level of services with minimal or no pause in membership offerings. Offerings and services will be communicated.     Other pools will remain open while the Dive/Water Pool works occur with program and service moves. When possible, the work will be conducted outside of peak hours, and we will implement noise control measures to reduce disruptions.
